Grange greens proved too tough for us this time around
The annual Sleeper Day tournament - held between Police Bowls, RSL Bowls, Master Builders Bowls and Custom Bowls - saw Master Builders run away winners once again.
Unfortunately, RSL Bowls Association did not perform at its best this year, finishing in third place. Customs nabbed second spot on shots difference, having finished equal with RSL on 31 points.
Police finished fourth only one point behind on 30. If it wasn't for a lucky last bowl by Terry Howard, we would have lost third spot to Police.
Grange greens were unusally slow and proved to be quite difficult to handle. Whilst we can't blame the surface for all our ills, there is no doubt the slow track was a burden for some of us.
Brent Marshall's and Terry Howard's teams won two out of three matches, Chris Venning's team won one of their three and Mark Elgar's team managed a draw in one match.
Master Builders once again fielded a very strong side - amazing how many Premier League bowlers are builders - and swamped the field with 60 points. Congratulations on their win.
Congratulations also to Grange Bowling Club for hosting the event yet again and putting on an excellent lunch.
For those not familiar with Sleeper Day, it is a side based competition where all play for the honour of getting their side name on a piece of old railway sleeper.
Your committee selects the side that represents RSL Bowls in the tournament which is played at Grange Bowling Club on a Friday, usually in early October.
RSL last won the tournament 3 years ago.
